Stinky, The Best Dog Ever

Nobody really knows why her name is Stinky, or where she comes from, but that little white Jack Russell is truly one of the best dogs ever.

Stink is one of the three dogs at Gunnbrook, but she is special. She thinks that she is the owner of the farm, and makes sure that everyone else thinks it too! It’s hilarious to see a small white dog barking orders to two other big dogs, like Rosie and Lilly. When she isn’t barking orders or protecting “her” horses, she is sleeping on top of the saddle blankets. One of the best things that she does is jump into your arms when you say “come Stinky!”.

Horse Show!

Normally, getting up at 4:00 would not be my idea of fun, but getting up at 4:00 to go to Gunnbrook Farm is not normal, and it is exactly my idea of fun. On Sunday, I got up at 4:00 to go to a horse show!

Going to a horse show is awesome, but the actual show is only half of it. Before hitting the show ring, there is SO much you need to do. After doing chores at the barn on Saturday, my friends Sarah, Olive, Lydia and I practiced riding for at least four hours, and then practiced showmanship. After that, we cleaned the saddles and bridles, then washed the horses that would be ridden. After that, we go the trailer ready for the next day, cleaned out those horse’s stalls. By then we already had to do the afternoon chores!

The horse I rode in the show is named Bit o biz, but I just know him as Rupert. He is a great showmanship and trail horse, but when he is on the rail (in the riding ring) he can get excited. Still, we both did very well in the show, and at the end, I brought home three first place ribbons and a division Champion trophy!

One Crazy Summer!

I’m really sorry that I have not been blogging for a while, but I’ve been REALLY busy! For the first two weeks of summer, I went to Gunnbrook farm horse-back riding camp, which started at 8:00 and ended at 12:00. After camp was over, I went home, ate lunch then had a tennis lesson for an hour until swim team practice started! I slept well after that! These days, I have been getting up at 6:30 every day to get to Gunnbrook by 7:00, where I helped out with the barn chores until 10:00. It has been a very fun summer, and I wish I could have written a few more posts :( . Visit my blog again for the next few posts, which will be coming soon :) !

Keep Blogging!

Ancient Olympics, Minus the Ancient Part

On Friday, my entire grade took a trip back in time, via school bus, and participated in the Ancient Olympics! What better way to learn about the Ancient Olympics for our study of Ancient Greece then to participate in them yourself? My class was Sparta (I know, awesome right?) and we all decorated shirts, painted our faces red and gold, put ribbons in our hair (the girls), wrote a cheer, and painted a banner for our city state. All of this preparation, ended with an amazing day filled with running, screaming, cheering and fun!

The Events:

800 meter run

80 meter sprint

4×100 relay

4×200 relay

400 meter walk

Long Jump

Shotput

Discus

Here are pictures that my awesome teacher took:

The photos in the slideshow below are before and after shots – watch how the face paint changes!

Thanks for reading my blog!

Horse Poems

Here are a few poems that I liked about horses:

I Smile

I smile.
A slight grin crawls across my face,
And a glimmer shines within my eye.
As I look at him, I smile.
Munching, munching. happy and content..
Perfectly consistent with every chew.
I wonder..
What makes him so special?
What about him makes me so happy?

A ray of sun dances across his dusty coat,
Two stepping on the chilly breeze,
Waltzing with the strand of hay entwined in his ebony mane.
Tasseled are his ears, and long whiskers,
But ever so much longer are his gentle inquisitive gazes.
The gazes that see right through you and back.
Way past your soul and straight to the core of your heart.

His sudden pause terminates my dreaming,
But now it’s just a momentary halt of chewing,
Couples with a wistful glance to the field.
Wrangle ambling, he continues to graze.
I breath in his soft sent and find myself happy,
Much happier than before I knew those hairy ears and adoring gazes.
I know not why, but still..
I smile.

Dreams of a Horse
( By: Sarah Schultz)

Theses dreams only exist in their minds.
They run wild and free with a heart of gold.
Their minds filled with kindness.
Never ever bold.

The dreams of a giant field,
Or maybe even a new owner!
They never will shield,
Except if they go to a loaner.

These dreams we will never understand,
Only they can understand them.
In their own way they have gentle hands,
You will never see a hit.
The dreams of a horse.

Horses
By Jessica W.

Horses are spirits floating in the Sky.

Prancing while clouds go by.
Racing through fields of dreams.
While their sparkling coat gleams.
Horses are like the fire burning in my soul.
While protecting their precious young foal.
Horses are our rare gold bars.
Dashing through the fields like racing cars.
Finding things we would never uncover.
Acting like are favorite lover.
Never to spill the secrets of the bees.
Acting like lost keys.
But there is only one I can choose.
And this one I would never lose.
This only horse for me .
Is my favorite horse Naomi.

Arabian Prince
(Submitted by: Courtney O.)

You seek a Arabian stallion in a desert,
He is a prince that is unknown to mankind.
Seems almost unreal, this Arabian prince,
The prince is a great fantasy of your mind.

His robes are a lovely bay coat,
His crown is a star upon his face.
His knights are his faithful herd,
His palace is in this desert place.

At night he wanders with his herd,
His eyes glitter under the starlit sky.
This Arabian prince fights a war,
He is trying to win, so he might die.

He battles the winds who try to capture him,
Just for his beauty in grace, but he is free.
As a foal he roamed the desert as he wished,
He is the Arabian prince, and so he will be.

As he rears and snorts loudly,
He warns the sky to flee.
For it doesn’t know his power,
And says he will stay free.

His tail swishes his powerful flanks,
His long forelock covers his flaring eyes.
His mane lands on his elegant neck,
The prince has truly come from the skies.

So on the Arabian prince will rule,
Forever in the deserts he will stay.
You may see him in your dreams,
But never will you meet him someday.

Hope you enjoy these poems! If you have any others you know about, please share and comment!

Car Games

When you go long car ride do you get really, really bored? I do! Or at least, I did until I asked some of my friends and my teacher what they do when they need to pass the time on a road trip. These are  two of the games that they told me about:

1. Car color

Object of the game:

To score the most points

Scoring system:

orange cars=100 points

yellow cars=100 points

pink cars=1000 points

purple cars=1000 points

advanced way:

orange cars=100 points

yellow cars=100 points

pink cars=1000 points

purple cars=1000 points

Green cars=25 points

Blue cars=50 points

white cars=1 point

black cars=1 point

How to play:

Everyone who is playing looks out the car window and  try to find colorful cars, adding up the points as they go. Each car can only be used once, and by one person. At the end, you compare the points and see who got the most. Whoever that person is, they win!

2. Licence plates name game

Object of the game:

To spell your name using license plates

How to play:

Everyone playing looks out the window and at other cars’ license plates. Using the letters on the license plates, you try to spell your name, but you can only use one letter and license plate once. Whoever spells their name first wins!

Does anyone else know of any other car games?

I will blog about more of them soon!

Keep blogging!

Clara
